(Possibly) the longest Easter Egg Hunt on the edge of London!27th March 2018
Between the 30th March and the 2nd April, Epping Ongar Railway’s beloved Bertie Bunny will be leading what could be the longest Easter Egg Hunt close to London. The egg hunt will run the length of the railway track from Ongar through to Coopersale, which is the length of 131,579 eggs placed end to end! Children will be asked to find the eggs which have been hidden by Bertie around the Railway. They will have some clues to help them and any child who completes their ‘s egg sheet is entitled to one of Bertie’s Easter Eggs.
Bertie Bunny, the Head of Eggs and Easter, has said:
“My team have really eggscelled themselves this Easter and found some wonderful eggs for the children‘s prizes, and I‘ve had an eggsciting time hiding all the eggs again this year! It always takes me ages to hide them, running along over 5 miles of track, but I do my best to think of the best places to put them all. I've made it a fun challenge this year for all the children, and I'll be delighted to see how many can find them all.”
All participants will need to buy tickets, family tickets are available for £38 in advance online, and includes all the activities. Tickets can also be purchased on the day, either on the buses or from the ticket office at the station. Heritage buses will be running from directly outside Epping Underground and Shenfield stations on route 339 to North Weald station regularly to pick up passengers.
Roger Green, Bertie’s keeper, has said:
“Children will be able to have their faces painted, colour in their egg sheets and even dance with Bertie Bunny at our children’s disco, ‘The Bunny Hop’. There’s also hot and cold drinks and tasty snacks available at the anglia buffet car, and you can take the chance to stop by the gift shop for some pocket money souvenirs.”
Full details of the event can be found here. Steam and Diesel trains will be in operation throughout the weekend.
