The Epping Ongar Railway is seeking an organised, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented person to develop and deliver its exciting event programme.
About the Epping Ongar Railway
The Epping Ongar Railway (EOR) is a volunteer-run steam railway attraction that runs for 6 miles between Epping Forest and Ongar, with stations at North Weald and Ongar. The railway operates a small range of steam and diesel locomotives, heritage carriages and historic double decker buses providing a seasonal programme of family events, historical re-enactments and transport enthusiast galas. It currently has a modest food and beverage offering through two small cafes and a licensed bar.
EOR’s mission is to educate, enjoy and preserve the history and community of the Epping Ongar Railway.
About the Role:
This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in shaping visitors’ experiences and driving the commercial success of the Epping Ongar Railway. We are seeking an organised, enthusiastic, and detail-oriented person to develop and deliver exciting events that will:
- increase customer numbers,
- improve brand awareness,
- increase primary and secondary revenue.
The successful candidate will support the growth of EOR’s Restaurant on Rails food and beverage offer, develop opportunities to host corporate events, and increase film and photographic location hires.
The Events Manager reports to the General Manager.
Key Responsibilities
The post is responsible for:
- designing and marketing events
- event ticketing and pricing
- event implementation and coordination (including with suppliers and volunteers)
- Developing our website
- collecting and responding to customer feedback
- providing post-event analysis and finding ways of improving things
Skills and experience needed
The ideal candidate is creative, flexible and able to work in a diverse team. They will have:
- Event planning experience
- Coordination and communication skills
- Social media and website management skills
- Customer-facing experience
- Word, Excel, Powerpoint basic skills
- Canva (or equivalent design package) basic skills
Package and details
Salary up to £21,000 per annum (based on 24 hours per week)
Work hours: 24 hours per week. There is flexibility for working outside core hours and weekend working will be needed at busy times including during school holidays (around 4 weekend days each month). Occasionally you will need to work evenings too.
Work location: Mainly from home with some duties undertaken from our HQ at North Weald station
Annual Leave: 15 days per annum (based on working 24 hours per week)
Pension: A statutory pension is provided.
