Heritage Rail Artist Malcolm Root to Visit Epping Ongar Railway16th September 2025
The Epping Ongar Railway is proud to announce a special visit by acclaimed heritage rail artist Malcolm Root on Friday 19 September 2025.
Malcolm Root is one of Britain’s leading transport artists, widely admired for his evocative paintings capturing the golden age of steam, railways, and transport history. His works have become favourites with enthusiasts and collectors alike, blending technical accuracy with a strong sense of atmosphere and storytelling.

This event carries a particularly personal resonance. Malcolm’s father served with 257 Squadron during the Second World War – a unit remembered for its courage during the Battle of Britain, and remembered in the naming of our visiting Bulleid Locomotive at our Steam Gala 19 - 21 September 2025. That family connection has been a lasting source of inspiration in Malcolm’s work, which often reflects themes of heritage, service, and national pride.
Visitors to the Ongar Station on 19 September will have the chance to meet Malcolm Root in person, view examples of his celebrated artwork, and hear the stories behind his paintings. The day promises to be a memorable celebration of railway heritage, brought together in a uniquely fitting setting.
