Epping Ongar Railway runs Memory Train16th July 2022

The Epping Ongar Railway has teamed up with Epping Open Gardens and Epping Forest District Council (EFDC) to provide a 'Memory Train' for people affected by dementia.

The idea started in 2019 with the aim of running a charter service that would provide both the means of reminiscence and also a safe day out for this group of vulnerable people and their carers. Planning was under way when the pandemic struck in early 2020. Like so many things we had to wait until July 2022 for this event to take place.

Volunteers from the Railway, staff and officers from EFDC worked together to deliver what was seen to be a very successful day, helped by the dementia awareness training provided by EFDC prior to the event. The Railway received praise from attendees within hours of the guests leaving the Railway.

The Railway has funding from the group to provide further similar events and Christmas is certainly on the agenda as is a repeat of this event in 2023.

The Railway is happy to receive enquiries regarding chartering our trains.
