An addition to the coaching stock fleet24th May 2021
The Epping Ongar Railway is pleased to welcome an additional carriage to enhance its coaching stock fleet.
British Railways Mark 1 open coach, 4947 was built in 1961 at Wolverton works and currently wears the attractive "carmine and cream" livery. The vehicle was previously based on the Llangollen Railway in North Wales and has been purchased following an auction of assets by their administrators. It arrived at the Epping Ongar Railway's North Weald station on 24 May, and joins three other coaches of the type that were built at the same time.
Following an exam, and minor maintenance the coach is expected to enter service shortly. It will provide additional capacity at some of popular events, including the visit of Peppa Pig and George, our series of Santa's special trains and the Epping Ongar Light Fantastic.
The Llangollen Railway Trust is seeking to reopen the Llangollen Railway later this year and the Epping Ongar Railway wishes them well in their efforts.
