You can still treat dad, and the rest of the family, to a steam train ride as our regular steam and diesel hauled heritage trains, and connecting vintage London buses, will be operating.

This Father's Day, we are offering a rare and unique opportunity to join the crew on the footplate of our steam and diesel locomotives. You can experience the power of these locomotives from the best seat in the house!
Tickets must be purchased in advance for a specific train offering a complete round trip on the footplate from North Weald to Ongar and Epping Forest*. Footplate ride tickets include an All Day Rover so you can enjoy the rest of your day travelling "on the cushions"!
These footplate rides are extremely limited and are available at the following time, departing from North Weald station:
Class 20 diesel locomotive: 10.05; 11.20; 12.00; 12.50; 13.35, 14.25, 15.10, 15.55*
Steam locomotive: 12.00, 13.35, 15.10
The footplate trip lasts between 65 and 80 minutes depending on the train chosen.
* The 15.55 departure is a "short trip" from North Weald to Ongar and return only. This service does not operate into Epping Forest and lasts 35 minutes.
There is no parking at North Weald station. To make the most of your day, please travel by public transport and use our vintage London bus service on route 339, or use public car parks in Ongar. Your ticket is valid all day long, so you can travel "on the cushions" on other train and all our vintage London bus services on the date of your visit. Getting to us
PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
It's easy to get to us via the London Underground and Elizabeth Line and Greater Anglia services. Our inclusive vintage London buses will run from right outside the front of Epping Underground station (Central Line, zone 6) and from Shenfield station (for Elizabeth Line and Greater Anglia services), connecting with our train services at North Weald and Ongar stations.
THERE IS NO CAR PARKING AT OUR STATIONS:
There is only limited car parking for disabled passengers at our stations, which must be booked in advance. Public car parks are available in Ongar (charges may apply), a short walk from the station (use postcode CM5 9AB); Alternatively passengers may park at Epping Station (charges apply) and join our vintage bus service (use postcode CM16 4HW).

Want to purchase additional standard travel (All Day Rover) tickets?
You can purchase additional Standard travel tickets, if required, so friends and family can join you on the train, using the link below and selecting 21 June from the calendar. Standard travel tickets do not include a footplate ride.
GET STANDARD TRAVEL (ALL DAY ROVER) TICKETS
Please note: This is a footplate experience only. You will not be driving or firing the locomotive. You should not bring bags on the footplate due to limited room. Alcohol must not be consumed prior to your footplate adventure. The crew may refuse access to the footplate if they believe any participant is intoxicated. Participants on the steam locomotive footplate ride must wear long sleeved clothing and trousers and closed toe footwear (trainers are acceptable).
