Its CHRISTMAS! and in keeping with tradition the Epping Ongar Railway has adorned its trains with thousands of exciting lights - its a kaleidoscope of twinkling lights inside and out.
The magical family party train experience returns to the Epping Ongar Railway in 2026 – one of the most exciting family events in Essex for children, teens and adults alike, and a perfect festive day out near London.
Step aboard the Lights Party Express for an unforgettable interactive journey. This immersive steam train experience combines music, light and entertainment in a way you’ve never seen before.
Featuring the legendary “Voiceover Man” (as heard on Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor), guests are taken on a high-energy adventure packed with comedy, games and non-stop party atmosphere.
Inside the train, thousands of vibrant LED lights transform the carriages into a glowing, neon wonderland. A fully synchronised lightshow, sound-to-light effects and interactive LED wristbands mean every passenger becomes part of the performance.
Families can sing, dance and celebrate together to a festive DJ soundtrack designed to get everyone in the party spirit – from young children to parents and grandparents.
Departing from Ongar station, this is a standout Christmas and winter family attraction near London!
You're part of every show with a free illuminated wrist band and song sheets to get the party going. Sing, dance and cheer on this magical journey, hosted by the legendary Voiceover Man - laugh with him (or at him!) and compete against each other in his on board game!

Unforgettable Holiday Magic with Christmas carols and festive sing-a-long tunes everyone loves. Perfect for the families of all ages (you're never too old for a sing-song)! Our Christmas Gold trains run during the evenings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays between 28 November and 23 December.

Dance and sing along to classic party songs - you'll know the words to these pop anthems. Slightly older families will love the party atmosphere aboard this train. Trains leave at 4.45 pm and 6.15 pm on 15 November and 22 November, and after Christmas between 27 December and 2 January) On 31 December the trains leave earlier and you can celebrate the new year in style.

If your thing is Dancing on the ceiling then you are on the train to funky-town! Think 1980s mega pop and DISCO floor-fillers. This vibe is for grown-ups and mature teenagers who wanna dress up, and get movin to the groovin. Trains leave at 6.15 pm and 7.45 pm on 14, 21 and 27 November, and at 7.45 between 27 December and 2 January) The Groove Train on 31 December leaves earlier and you can celebrate the new year in style. |
The Epping Ongar Lights Express departs from Ongar station.

We have a licenced bar and a delicious street food truck at Ongar station so you can have a really fun night out.
Hot and cold snacks including burgers and hot dogs, and tea, coffee, soft and bottled alcoholic drinks will be available to purchase before boarding the train.

Getting to Ongar station
The Epping Ongar Lights Express service runs to and from Ongar station. The Lights Express experience lasts approximately 90 minutes. You will not be able to join the Epping Ongar Lights Express service at North Weald as the train will not stop there. There is no parking at Ongar station. There are a number of car parks a 5 minute walk from the station. Please navigate to CM5 9AB. You can find details more details about parking at Ongar by following this link.
Our vintage London bus service will not be running in conjunction with this event.

Our standard seating areas are located around tables of 4 either side of a central aisle. These seats are not allocated and you may sit anywhere within our standard seating carriages. You may be required to share a table with another party.

Dates and Times
The Epping Ongar Lights Party Express service departs from Ongar station on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 15 November to 2 January, and also on 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 December.
You cannot board this service at North Weald station as the train does not stop there.
