Oh help! Oh no! It’s a Gruffalo! And he's coming to the Epping Ongar Railway!
SORRY - THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED
Every child’s favourite picture book character, the Gruffalo, has found his way to the Epping Ongar Railway.
On Bank Holiday Monday 30 August, take a steam train ride into the deep dark wood and meet the Gruffalo himself who will be appearing at the times below.
It will be a great day out for all the family - especially the younger ones.
Arrangements this year have been modified to ensure the safety of our volunteers and all passengers. Capacity on each train will be limited and advance booking is essential.
Our resident magician, John, will be on board the train with lots of tricks to keep you entertained during the journey, and there will be other on board activities too.
You can see the Gruffalo on the platform at the following times, before taking a ride on a heritage steam train through the Essex countryside and into the deep dark wood of the historic Epping Forest.
The experience lasts approximately 90 minutes.
All services commence from North Weald station. Car parking will be available; please use postcode CM16 6BT. Do not follow the brown signs to Ongar station. You will not be able to board trains at Ongar.
Connecting heritage buses will operate from Epping Underground and Shenfield stations. You can download the times of buses here (pdf file, 956kb).
The following great value fares apply. Capacity on each train is limited; advance booking is essential.

These trains are planned to be hauled by a steam locomotive from North Weald to Ongar, and by a diesel locomotive from Ongar to North Weald.
