London Transport Weekend12, 13 May
The Railway has a long association with the Underground and London Transport stemming from its time as a part of the Central Line. This weekend, in conjunction with the London Transport Museum is a celebration of all things London Transport. An intensive train service will operate, including steam trains hauled by "Metropolitan Number 1".
You can also see a display of some of London Transport's iconic buses, and some will be in use connecting our stations with Epping Underground and Shenfield National Rail stations! We will be running additional buses on former London Transport routes in the area. These will also be included in your fare.
Visit the Museum team in the marquee at North Weald station to enjoy creative activities for families. Get crafty and design your own London Transport logo badge as a memento of your day.
A carefully curated selection of London Transport Museum gifts and products will also be available for sale over the weekend including Underground themed books, toys and exclusive models.
We will have a pop-up shop at North Weald selling secondhand bus books and magazines, second hand boxed EFE buses and other models plus over 100 NEW EFE "Archive" bus models at reasonable prices.
New current EFE models will be available in North Weald Gift Shop together with new bus books, many reduced in price.
Malcolm Batten, who is an Epping Ongar Railway Volunteer Society member, will be signing his new book, published by Amberley Publishing, entitled "East London Buses 1970s - 1980s" in the Penny Salon gallery at Ongar Station over the weekend
Further details to be announced.
As well as the usual service on route 339 between Epping, North Weald and Shenfield, additional buses will operate both days on special services 175, 381A and 718, recreating former London Transport bus routes on the area.
